ABOUT PAULA...
May 22, 2008, Calgary, Alberta
I was born in London, England and am married to a scientist. We have moved around quite a bit due to my husband’s work. As a result our three children were each born in a different country – the first in Jerusalem, Israel, the second in Eugene, Oregon, and the third in Quebec City, Canada. We settled in Calgary in 1989. I still live in Calgary with my husband, youngest daughter, and three dogs - two golden retrievers and a Kuvasz.
For the first few years I took care of my children and did a lot of volunteer work. Then my younger daughter started horse riding. Introducing me to horses was where it all began. First I started riding myself, which is where my love of horses came from. From this I was inspired to learn to paint these beautiful animals, and it really changed my life. From there I also started painting portraits of people.
I have a great passion for painting. I usually start painting in the evening and often am still painting when the morning paper is delived - I just lose all track of time. I have had my paintings at the Calgary Stampede (I won first prize in Oils - “Waiting for Stampede” can be found in the Portraits Gallery - and many other prizes for acrylics, pastels and colored pencil drawings on sandpaper). I have also had my work displayed at Spruce Meadows, was commissioned to do a painting that is on display at the University of Alberta, I have paintings in the U.S.A. etc.
This past year I was commissioned to paint a group of Happy International Children for a new International school in Pai Chai, South Korea in which I painted 16 children at near life size! (If you are interested you can go to my “Portraits Gallery” to see it).
This week I will be starting a painting that will be part of a mural that will be unveiled at the Masters at Spruce Meadows this September.
I usually paint from a photograph supplied by you, but I am willing to come to take a photograph if preferred.
I try to keep my paintings at a reason price as I feel that every child should have a painting of their horse, and every parent and grandparent should be able to have a painting of their child!
Thanks for visiting my web site - I am at many horses shows so if you see me come and say Hi!
